Afro Fest in Aksarben celebrates African culture
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Summer may be coming to an end, but there are still a few festivals to check out on the Omaha metro.
The event has a lot of sights, tastes and sounds. Saturday, third annual Afro Fest was in Stinson Park.
“We do this to bring people together, share and celebrate African culture,” said event organizer Judy Kiagiri.
People can experience clothing and jewelry vendors. There is also music and food for the participants.
“Diversity is important, so having a type of event like this, we bring people together to see the Alayba, know the Alayba, a ton of us in the community and we’re really excited to share this that makes us and the rest of you special, ”Kiagiri said.
The event is also a good educational opportunity for those present. Not only clothes and more help with it, but maps and posters with information are strewn around the park.
“Africa is not just starving children and dying people, like Africa has 54 countries. Many countries are tribal, with large economies. People are doing great things, so that’s the strong message we want to get across, ”said event organizer Folly Teko.
The only thing Afro Fest officials think people will take away from the event is …
“I think they’ll say, ‘Woah, I think I have to pack my bag and go to Africa. “
